Yorkshire stone slate is excellent in the Pennine corridor (West Yorks, Derbyshire highs, Sheffield rural). 100+ year lifespan. £120-£200/m² fitted. Specialist match work.

What about clay pantile?

Hull pantile, Lincolnshire pantile, S-profile clay tile — all viable in their regional vernaculars. 70-100 year lifespan. £80-£130/m² fitted.

Are concrete tiles ugly?

No — modern concrete tile (concrete tile (brand on request)) is visually similar to small clay or slate from street level. The £30-£40/m² saving is significant on a typical 100m² roof.
